Nabeel Rajab-Shia Activist in Jail for Demanding His Rights

Nabeel_RajabSRW demands the immediate release of the Shia human rights activist Nabeel Rajab. We  demand the overturning of his conviction for organizing demonstration.

Nabeel Rajab is a Shia Bahraini and the president of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights. He was sentenced on August 16, 2012 to three years in prison for organizing and participating in demonstrations between January and March of this year. Rajab was serving three month prison term for his June 2 tweet calling for the Bahraini prime minster to resign.

SRW believes Nabeel Rajab was practicing his right to peaceful gathering by participating in demonstrations. His conviction is a violation of his right to freedom of assembly.

Nabeel Rajab, just like any other Shia Muslim, must enjoy his human rights, and should be released immediately, SRW says.

Shia Rights Watch calls the Bahraini Authority to Disclose the Destiny of Injured Detained Child

Shia Rights Watch expresses deep concern for the extreme repression and severe torture applied by the regime’s security forces in Bahrain against peaceful and unarmed protestors. These practices are violating and threatening the lives of citizens in ages, especially those of women and children.

According to witnesses reporting to Shia Rights Watch, security forces shot 14 year old Ibrahim Meghdad in a farm in Bilad AlGhadeem, hit him with their weapons and sticks and then led him to an unknown detention. The child was heard screaming “help me!”; yet the Interior Ministry denies any knowledge of the accident or the presence of the detained child in any of its prisons.

Witnesses also inform SRW that the detained child was already injured by internationally forbidden shotguns fired by the security forces.

Shia Rights Watch calls the Bahraini authorities to inform the destiny of the 14 year old detained child, Ibrahim Meghdad, and to allow his parents to visit him and observe his health situation as soon as possible.

Shia Rights Watch, also calls the authority to put an end to the violations of human rights in Bahrain.

This Mother’s day Support Women Protesters

Bahrain-WomenShia around the world should show their solidarity to the brave women of the Middle East. Ahead of Mother’s day, Shia Rights Watch is calling on its supporters to mark the day by sending messages of support to mothers and women in the region.

Throughout Shia history, women have been an inspiring forces for change and stood up against repressive forces to defend human rights and promote equality. Looking to Lady Fatima, the beloved daughter of Prophet Mohammad as their role model, Shia woman have played a critical role in recent uprisings across the world.

Women and mothers in Iraq, Malaysia, Pakistan and Afghanistan, support Shia rights every day. They lose their beloved children and husbands in anti-Shia activities every day. Yet they strongly defend Shia rights on the forefront of protest.

Shia Rights Watch’s report on Bahrain states many women lost their lives to defend their faith and many mothers lost their loved ones to defend Shia rights.

Woman in Saudi Arabia are fighting for their rights every day. Shia woman are participating in peaceful protests along with men to do their share in defending Shia rights.

In Yemen, women are at the forefront of mass protests calling for religious equality and freedom.

All around the world, anywhere that Shia rights are being violated, courageous Shia women defended Shia by protesting, donating, losing their loved ones and even losing their own right to life.

Shia Rights Watch supports women across the world that continue to defend Shia rights. All human rights defenders should stand in solidarity with those Shia women and let them know the world is behind them in their historic moments.

Arrest of the youngest Bahraini Quran reciter by the Saudi religious militia

arrest_of_youngest_quran_reciterShia Rights Watch strongly condemns the arrest of the youngest Bahraini Quran reciter, Hassan Abulhassan, 11, by the Saudi religious militia and police at the Prophet Mohammad Mosque in Medina.

The militia arrested Abulhassan while he was giving a lesson to other children on the correct way to recite Quran. The militia attacked the man who was chaperoning the children and filming them at one of the courtyard of the mosque.  The Saudi militia then took Abulhassan and his father to their headquarters for interrogation.

When the father of the Abulhassan inquired about the reason for detention, he was answered that they got the information that Hassan is a Rafidhi, a derogatory term for Shia Muslims widely used by Wahhabi extremists.

The police told the father Abdulah Abulhassan that he should not recite the Quran in the places like Prophet Mohammad Mosque. The incident shocked the witnesses who expressed their outrage to the Saudi religious militia. One of the Egyptian witnesses followed them and refused to leave until they were released.

He testified that Hassan did not make any mistake that justifies the militia’s attacking and intimidating him during the recitation of the Quran.  Abulhassan and his father were released by Saudi religious militia without apology. Shia visitors for the Prophet Mohamed Mosque are a frequent target for abuse by the Saudi religious militia and security forces.

In December of 2011 a Shia Muslim from Australia was arrested in Medina and sentenced to 500 lashes ad months in prison after been arrested by the religious militia.
